Action

Our art piece for our community came out of the resistance of many Toronto community members to become actively involved in our online community out of fears of givin up personal information. We realized that the people we were trying to involve so often gave up their information without knowing it; online contests, at a big box check out, or on CCTV cameras. As a statement, that was part farce, we handed out self censoring strips to pedestrians in Yonge and Dundas square in downtown Toronto. We then took photos of them censoring themselves and asked them to take the black strip with them to sensor themselves in the future as an unrealistic request showing how little control they have over their identity. While people were posing for us we also took paparazzi style pictures because you never now when someone is taking a picture of you.
